#MCDEVITTSTRONG
IT'S A PRIVILEGE TO SWEAT, WE DO IT FOR MATT
Our friend Matt McDevitt, a 31-year-old member of FDNY Ladder 135, courageously battled a rare cancer called NUT Carcinoma for two years. Those of you who were lucky enough to know Matt know he was nothing but relentless, positive and most of all a resilient fighter. Through Matt's battle his strength and positivity never waivered, and neither did his desire and commitment to exercise. When Matt's journey brought him to a place where his ability to workout everyday was impacted, he started encouraging his friends and family to get up, get out and get in a sweat in his honor. Matt's love of exercise runs so deep that he would bring his portable oxygen tank to the gym with him to lift while his devoted wife Jackie would run on a treadmill by his side. His simple message of "sweating is a privilege" impacted so many of us around him, and the #McDevittStrong movement began. Wearing a #McDevittStrong bracelet means you recognize the privilege you have in being able to exercise and will work hard to get out and SWEAT every day that you are physically able to - Matt would.
MATT'S BATTLE
Matt had multiple surgeries, various rounds of chemo and radiation, as well as participated in a clinical trial at Dana Farber in Boston where an amazing team is leading research specifically on the same rare cancer that Matt had. It takes an incredibly dedicated and passionate team to lead research on a rare cancer, and our friends at Dana Farber are no exception. When we first purchased these bracelets to spread Matt's message Jackie knew right away that she wanted all proceeds from these bracelets to fund the research that the NUT Carcinoma team is leading - they WILL find a cure for this cancer, and we want to support them every step of the way.
